English Abstract

Energy management is becoming increasingly a design factor in mobile handheld communication devices (HCD). With the advent of these devices, energy-conscious algorithms and architectures have gained wide attention. That is, new mechanisms and strategies for energy-efficient hardware and software are developed. In this paper, we provide a synopsis of the crucial significance of energy savings in HCD, and point out various
sources of energy consumption and estimation in such devices. We also discuss some principles of energy consumption at both logical and technological levels. Moreover, strategies of power consumption optimization at the algorithmic level and architectural level are considered.
